MathVoice — Terms of Service
MathVoice Terms of Service
Effective: July 21, 2026 · Version 1.0 · Contact us

1. Agreement to terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of MathVoice, including the Studio web application at mathvoice.app, the REST API at api.mathvoice.app, browser extensions, add-ons, and any related software (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by MathVoice ("we", "us", or "our").

By creating an account, obtaining an API key, or using the Service in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

If you are using the Service on behalf of an institution (school, university, or organisation), you represent that you have authority to bind that institution to these Terms.

2. The Service

MathVoice lets you edit mathematical equations and LaTeX formulas by voice or text. The Service processes your mathematical intent and returns edited formula output. Key capabilities include:

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the Service at any time. We will provide reasonable notice before materially reducing core functionality for paid subscribers.

3. Accounts and API keys

3.1 Account creation

You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account. You are responsible for safeguarding your password and API keys, and for all activity conducted under your account.

3.2 API keys

API keys are issued per tier (Free, Starter, Professional, Enterprise). You must keep your API key confidential and must not share it publicly, commit it to version control, or embed it in client-side code accessible to end users. You are solely responsible for all usage charges arising from your API key. If your key is compromised, revoke it immediately in the Service dashboard or by contacting us.

4. Plans, pricing, and payment

4.1 Plans

4.2 Billing

Paid plans are billed monthly through Lemon Squeezy or Stripe (our payment processors). Payment is due at the beginning of each billing cycle. We do not store your card details — all payment information is handled by the processor.

4.3 Overages

If you exceed your plan's monthly request limit, API requests will return a rate-limit error (HTTP 429) unless you upgrade or purchase additional capacity. We do not charge overage fees without prior authorisation.

4.4 Refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle — you retain access until then. Refunds are issued at our discretion for billing errors or service outages. Contact us at our contact page for refund requests.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms. For rate-limit or security-related suspensions, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you first.

6. Your content

"Content" means the mathematical formulas, LaTeX strings, and voice inputs you submit to the Service. You retain all ownership of your Content.

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to process your Content solely as necessary to provide the Service to you — that is, to parse your formulas, run the intent recognition pipeline, and return results. We do not use your Content to train machine-learning models.

You are responsible for ensuring that your Content does not violate any law or third-party right. Since formulas may occasionally contain personal information (e.g., a student's name in a word problem), ensure you have appropriate consent before submitting such content.

7. Privacy

Our data practices are described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Key points:

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, and the MathVoice name and logo, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks, branding, or proprietary technology except as necessary to access the Service.

Open-source components used in the Service remain under their respective licences.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that:

You should always verify generated formulas before using them in assessments, publications, or production systems.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall MathVoice be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the three (3) months preceding the claim, or one hundred New Zealand dollars (NZD $100) if you are on a free plan.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MathVoice and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party right.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service and cancel your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if your account is inactive for more than twelve (12) months, or if we discontinue the Service.

Upon termination, your API keys will be deactivated and we will cease processing your data. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, liability, indemnification) remain in effect.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will provide notice via the Service or by email (if you have an account) at least fourteen (14) days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of New Zealand, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

15. Contact

For questions about these Terms, commercial licensing, or any other legal matter, please contact us. For Google Workspace Marketplace add-on support, include "Google Docs Add-on" in your subject line.
